The project involved the design of a Waste Treatment Plant in the West Sector of Central Macedonia Region.

The facility has been foreseen to treat 297,700 t/a of MSW, namely:

a) 262,700 t/a mixed MSW and

b) 35,000 t/a biowaste.

The main target of the facility’s operation is to maximize materials’ recovery and to reduce residual waste, thus mitigating the environmental impact of landfilling.

The mixed MSW treatment line includes pre-treatment, mechanical separation and sorting of the waste to recover recyclables and waste-derived fuel (SRF/RDF). The organic fraction sorted out of the mixed MSW stream undergoes biological treatment to recover CLO.

The biowaste treatment process comprises two stages: anaerobic treatment and composting. The aim of this process is to recover biogas intended for onsite utilization as an energy resource, and to produce high quality compost intended for agricultural use.
